Connect external tools
Tools let an assistant use an existing application or business service. MCP is one interface for making those capabilities available to an assistant.

When you need a tool connection
Connect a tool when data lives in a business system, specialized software is needed, or you want to reuse an existing workflow. If uploading a file is enough, start there.
brazosd supports organization remote MCP services and MCP tools on device connectors. Installing a tool, configuring it, and loading it into a session are separate steps.
Prepare the details
Ask the provider or administrator for the service address, connection method, credentials, and allowed actions. For a device tool, confirm where the software runs and whether it is installed.
Understand whether the tool reads data, changes it, sends content externally, or incurs charges. Its name alone does not establish those boundaries.
Ask for help connecting
I want to use the information lookup tool supplied by our administrator. Check whether its MCP connection already exists and list its capabilities. Tell me where to enter missing credentials; do not ask me to paste secrets into chat. Test a read-only query before loading the tool into this session.
Some initial configurations need technical support. Provide official setup instructions to your assistant or administrator instead of inventing commands.
Use and update the tool
Describe your task normally and name the connected tool if needed. A tool may need to be loaded into the current session before use.
After configuration changes, reload it when required. Changes to device process credentials may require restarting that process rather than simply reloading the session connection.
Troubleshoot
Check the address, network route, credentials, device status, and permissions. Private network addresses require a reachable route. Preserve the error and time without exposing secrets.
A connection does not remove organization, device, or provider restrictions. Confirm availability through an actual test.
